Street Survival 2010
OVR will be hosting a Street Survival program again for 2010. The date that has been selected is Saturday June 26th and
the event will be held at the OSU Buckeye lot at the corner of Ackermen and Fred Taylor on the OSU campus. This event
is a great way for OVR and the SCCA to reach out to the community. The event is a day of driving instruction for young
drivers who have just gotten their license. Where driver's school leaves off, we pick up. In this program we try to
talk about and teach students to make wise driving decisions out on the road. Most teen accidents happen when teens are
put into situations they are not familiar with and react poorly. Our job is to simulate real world situations and help
the students learn to react properly in a way to avoid or minimize a potentially deadly vehicle situation. We can do
that safely in an open parking lot with instructors riding along with the students.

The program includes a lot of hands on driving situations and some classroom instruction. The class includes sections
on emergency braking, emergency lane changes, dealing with changing surface conditions, awareness of other vehicles,
and the dangers of in car distractions. The class is $75.00 for the day and includes lunch for the students. More
information can be found at streetsurvival.org
or by reading about our
2008 event
on the web site.
We would like to ask our club members to spread the word about this event. Please post information at work and let
friends and family know. Parents of the teens are our best audience and we want to make this event a success again
this year.
We are also looking for sponsors and instructors for this year's event. This is NOT a racing school and anyone with
a driver's license can be an instructor. Instruction materials will be provided prior to the event outlining how
to execute the drills and what types of things to talk to the students about. Please contact me if you are interested
in being an instructor. At our last event we had a good mix of solo and road race participants and I would love to see
even more this year. The closer we come to a 1:1 instructor to student ratio the better for both students and instructors.
